Streams Under Subclass 188

1. Business Innovation Stream

This stream is for individuals with business acumen to establish or operate a business in Australia.

Key Features:

  • Temporary visa with an option to extend.
  • Requires nomination by a state or territory government.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Score at least 65 points on the points table.
  • Own personal and business assets of at least AUD 800,000.
  • Operate a successful business with an annual turnover of AUD 500,000 for at least two fiscal years.
  • Be under the age of 55 (unless waived).
  • Have functional English.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

 

Application Process:

  1. Calculate points using the SkillSelect points table.
  2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the SkillSelect system.
  3. Secure a state or territory nomination.
  4. Receive an invitation to apply.
  5. Lodge your visa application with the required documents.

2. Investor Stream

This stream is for individuals willing to invest AUD 1.5 million in Australian state or territory bonds.

Processing Time: 20–21 months

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Invest AUD 1.5 million in state/territory bonds.
  • Own assets worth at least AUD 2.25 million.
  • Have experience managing successful investments or businesses.
  • Be under the age of 55 (unless waived).
  • Have functional English.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

 

Application Process:

  1. Submit an EOI via SkillSelect.
  2. Obtain nomination from a state/territory government.
  3. Receive an invitation to apply.
  4. Make the investment and lodge your visa application.

3. Significant Investor Stream

This stream requires individuals to invest AUD 5 million in complying investments in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Make an investment of AUD 5 million.
  • Be nominated by a state or territory government.
  • Have functional English.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

4. Entrepreneur Stream

This stream is for individuals who have secured AUD 200,000 in funding from an authorized entity to engage in entrepreneurial activities in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Secure funding of AUD 200,000 from an approved entity.
  • Be under the age of 55 (unless waived).
  • Have competent English.
  • Be nominated by a state or territory government.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

5. Premium Investor Stream

This stream is for individuals who can invest AUD 15 million in complying premium investments in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Receive an invitation from Austrade.
  • Make an investment of AUD 15 million.
  • Have functional English.
  • Meet health and character requirements.
Extension Streams
  • Business Innovation Extension Stream: Extends the stay of Business Innovation visa holders for up to 2 more years.
  • Significant Investor Extension Stream: Extends the stay of Significant Investor visa holders, allowing a total stay of up to 8 years.
